On June 8, 2019, Mr. Tan Kok Wai, the Malaysian Special Envoy to China, visited XMU and was received by President Zhang Rong.
Zhang expressed gratitude to the Malaysian government for supporting the construction of Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), the first overseas outreach by Chinese higher education institutions. Tan said that the Malaysian government would continue to work with XMU to make the campus more international and diverse.
