"Learning Chinese and Perceiving China" 2023 Summer Chinese Language Training Program

Xiamen University invites all Chinese language enthusiasts to join the "Learning Chinese and Perceiving China" Summer Chinese Training Course. This program aims to enhance students' oral communication skills while providing a diverse learning experience through language training, cultural lectures, cultural activities, and corporate visits.



Program Highlights

The course combines language learning with cultural immersion, enabling participants to improve their spoken Chinese quickly while gaining a comprehensive understanding of Chinas economy, history, culture, and society. A variety of cultural experiences and enterprise visits are included.


1. Course Dates: July 3 to July 28, 2023 (four weeks), Monday to Friday.


2. Eligibility and Enrollment: Open to Chinese learners at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. A minimum of 10 students per level is required.


Curriculum and Activities


Before classes begin, students will take a Chinese proficiency test to ensure appropriate class placement and tailored teaching content.


The training consists of three modules:


1. Chinese Language Learning (Monday to Friday mornings)

- Courses: Comprehensive Chinese, Listening, Oral Chinese, Chinese Character Writing.

- Focus: Enhance oral communication skills through practical topics related to daily life, learning, and communication.

- Comprehensive Chinese: Develop overall communication abilities in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, while mastering phonetics, vocabulary, grammar, and cultural context.

- Oral Chinese: Equip learners to address real-life issues and engage in discussions on relevant topics using functional language.

- Chinese Listening: Help learners understand language materials pertinent to daily life and language study.

- Chinese Character Writing: Teach reading and writing Chinese characters, covering essential strokes, radicals, and cultural significance.


2. Cultural Practice and Experience (Monday to Friday afternoons)

- Situational Practice: Chinese conversation practice twice a week.

- Lectures: Weekly lectures on topics such as the Chinese economy, culture, traditional Chinese medicine, and guqin.

- Cultural Experiences: Engage in activities like calligraphy, traditional painting, tea culture, and wearing Hanfu, twice a week.


3. Cultural Exploration

- Visits to local attractions or businesses in Xiamen.

- Organized field trips to Quanzhou, Zhangzhou, Longyan, or Wuyi Mountain for groups of 15 or more (costs covered by participants).

Certification

Participants will receive a Continuing Education Certificate from Xiamen University.


Eligibility Criteria

1. Age 18-55, healthy individuals, including foreigners, overseas Chinese, and others with valid foreign passports who can apply for a visa to China.

2. High school diploma or equivalent.


Required Application Documents

1. Personal photos.

2. Scanned copy of the first page of your passport (valid after October 31, 2023).

3. Scanned copy of your highest academic degree certificate.

4. Scanned copy of HSK Certificate and Transcript (if applicable).

5. Physical Examination Record (completed in Chinese or English, stamped by the hospital; valid for 6 months).

6. Certificate of non-criminal record from local authorities, valid within 6 months prior to application submission.


Group Applications

Groups of 15 or more can coordinate to form a class, with arrangements for tuition, courses, and scheduling to be agreed upon.
