China-ASEAN Universities Basketball Invitational Tournament Opens at Xiamen University
To carry forward the spirit of Tan Kah Kee, Xiamen University held the China-ASEAN Universities Basketball Invitational Tournament from October 26 to 30. Eight men’s basketball teams from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, the University of Malaya in Malaysia, Hanoi National University in Vietnam, Zhejiang University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, East China Normal University, Jimei University, and Xiamen University in China gathered to participate in this sports event.

On the evening of October 26, the opening ceremony of the China-ASEAN Universities Basketball Invitational Tournament was held at the Mingpei Basketball Hall on the Siming Campus of Xiamen University. Vice President Professor Fang Ying were in attendance.
In his speech, Professor Fang Ying remarked that 2024 is a significant year for China-ASEAN people-to-people and cultural exchanges. China and ASEAN countries have established a profound friendship and close cooperative relationships. This basketball invitational tournament is not only a grand event of athletic competition but also a platform for young students from China and ASEAN to communicate, learn from one another, and strengthen friendships. As the first university founded by an overseas Chinese figure in modern Chinese education, Xiamen University will continue to uphold Tan Kah Kee’s ambition, deepen cooperation with universities in Southeast Asia, and contribute to the development of a “China-ASEAN Community with a Shared Future.”
Professor Fang then officially announced the opening of the China-ASEAN Universities Basketball Invitational.
At the opening ceremony, Xiamen University’s martial arts and cheer-leading teams performed a lively show.

Following the opening ceremony, Xiamen University played against Nanyang Technological University. During the game, players on both teams demonstrated exceptional skill and a strong fighting spirit.


The invitational tournament will last five days, with a total of 20 games. This event is not only a basketball competition but also an opportunity for cultural exchange, bringing fresh energy to the friendship and cooperation between China and ASEAN.
