Professor Chen Lanfen is one of the 20 recipients of the For Women In Science (FWIS) International Awards, which honours exceptional female scientists for their contributions to science. FWIS, which was established in 2004, is regarded as the most significant prize for women working in scientific research in China. It seeks to give female scientists who are just beginning their scientific careers a voice and visibility in order to promote their creativity and excitement for scientific research in the modern period and enable them to make greater contributions.

Professor Chen represents one of the core researchers of Cellular Stress Biology in the School of Life Sciences and the State Key Laboratory, a key member of the Department of Cell Biology, and a high-calibre overseas young professional. She also was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Professor Chen received both the undergraduate degree and master’s degree from Xiamen University and earned her PhD from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. After five years of employment at Harvard Medical School, Professor Chen made the decision to serve at the XMU School of Life Science in her hometown in 2012.

Professor Chen focus on researching the pathophysiology of immune-related disorders, which offers a strong scientific basis for the diagnosis of those diseases. As a rising female scientist, she emphasized that persistence is what allows her to progress. She is convinced that life sciences research is crucial for advancing human health and living standards.
