On October 27, Consul-General of Royal Thai Consulate-General in Xiamen, Pirawat Atsavapranee led a delegation to XMU. Vice President Yang Bin met with the guests.
Yang Bin welcomed Pirawat Atsavapranee on his first visit to the University after assuming office and briefed him on the founding history and feature programs and the current international cooperation and exchange of XMU. He said that this year marks the centenary of the founding of the XMU. The University has been adhering to the Tan Kah Kee Spirit, educating students for the nation’s benefit, upholding the policy of opening-up, and has always attached importance to promoting exchange and cooperation with Southeast Asian universities. In 2006, XMU established its first Confucius Institute with the Mae Fah Luang University (MFU) of Thailand. Since then, XMU has been offering full support to the Thai side in developing a Chinese education program. This year, XMU also launched a new cooperation program in the field of Chinese medicine with MFU.
Pirawat Atsavapranee thanked VP Yang for his hospitality and acknowledged the University’s achievementsin developing exchange and cooperation with Thailand. He congratulated XMU on its centenary and praised the University for cultivating numerous outstanding talents. Pirawat Atsavapranee also thanked XMU for its support and care for Thai students under the epidemic. He said that China and Thailand have a profound history of friendship. The exchange of education between the two parties is the basis for cooperation and mutual understanding between the two countries. He hoped that his visit would be an opportunity to deepen the cooperation in education, further the exchange of teachers and students between XMU and the Thai side, and explore the possibility of joint degree programs for mutual benefits and common development.

Pirawat Atsavapranee and his delegation also went to the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (CCCE) to learn about the development of the chemistry and chemical engineering discipline and visited the State Key Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of Solid Surfaces. Xie Zhaoxiong, Dean of CCCE, walked through the College with them. He said that the CCCE has now become a first-class college with the traditional advantages of chemistry as its core, integrated with the development of chemical engineering.

In addition, Pirawat Atsavapranee and his delegation also discussed with Professor Liu Yue, Vice Dean of College of Foreign Languages and Culture (CFLC), and Professor Xiao Xiaoyan, an expert of the interpretation team, on future cooperation between the Thai side and the interpretation team of CFLC.

Wanlapa Jitsomboon, Vice Consul-General of Royal Thai Consulate-General in Xiamen, Tidapa Sitikhonpibulaya, Consul of Royal Thai Consulate-General in Xiamen, Zeng Jinji, Director of the Division of Consular Affairs at Foreign Affairs Office of Xiamen Municipal People’s Government, accompanied the visit. Yu Hongbo, Executive Director of the Office of Overseas Affairs and Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Liu Wanyu, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange were also present at the events.
