XMU teams reap prizes in the 2nd National Collegiate Embedded Chips and System Design Competition and the 4th Intelligence Interconnection and Innovation Competition
From October 18 to 20, 2019, the finals of the 2nd National Collegiate Embedded Chips and System Design Competition and the 4th Intelligence Interconnection and Innovation Competition were held in Nanjing. Two teams from Xiamen University (XMU) advanced to the national finals, and eventually team Pi Pi Xia won the first prize and team Challenger won the third prize. At the same time, team Pi Pi Xia was also awarded the Best Innovation Award and the Shanghai Mind Motion Enterprise Special Award.

Main members of team Pi Pi Xia are undergraduate students from School of Electronic Science and Engineering (National Model Microelectronics College) (ESE), Xiamen University and School of Informatics (SI), Xiamen University, with senior engineer Lin Hezhi as their instructor. The team used advanced visual positioning and autonomous navigation technology, indoor automatic driving technology and multi-modal intelligent control technology to design an automatic driving shared intelligent wheelchair. Moreover, the team also used mobile internet technology and cloud platform technology to realize the "one-click booking" on the APP, so that the smart wheelchair that has been successfully booked will
"drive automatically" indoors, and arrive at the designated location. After leasing the wheelchair, users can use multi-modal intelligent control technology, such as voice control, mobile phone gravity sensor control or virtual joystick control in order to control the wheelchair to reach the destination.

The competition lasted half a year. 5,134 students from 1,618 teams representing 301 colleges and universities participated in the competition, with 117 teams advancing to the national finals. The entries cover various fields including smart home, intelligent transportation, intelligent agriculture, drones and driverless vehicles, and possess strong applicability and commercial value.
XMU attaches great importance to the competition. The school has carefully organized a campus tryout, encouraged students to actively participate in the competition, invited experts on and off campus to give guidance and attracted 135 students from 45 teams to participate in the campus tryout.
