XMU students win the first place in the 2nd China Collegiate Power Battery Innovation Competition

On October 18, 2019, the finals of LG Chem 2nd China Collegiate Power Battery Innovation Competition came to an end. After fierce competitions, Xiamen University’s (XMU) team, Xin Xia Li under the guidance of Teacher Xie Qingshui from College of Materials (CM), Xiamen University, performed greatly in the finals and stood out from other prestigious colleges and universities, winning the national first prize.

Since March 2019, LG Chem China, together with China Education Support Project, started to host the 2nd China Collegiate Power Battery Innovation Competition, and this competition has become the core of the support project. The team consists of a PhD student Chen Qiulin and four undergraduate students Wei Linfang, Qin Xuan, Yang Zhijing, Wang Xuecheng from CM and a postgraduate student Zhang Huai from School of Management, Xiamen University. The theme of their project is "Controllable design and lithium storage performance of three-dimensional porous Zn / ZnO framework layer of lithium metal anode". It focuses on the practical issues during the Lithium medal anodes cycling process such as the overgrowth of Lithium dendrite, the interface instability between electrode and electrolyte and the large volume expansion effect of the electrode.

As the world's largest production and sales country for new energy vehicles, China plays a pivotal role in this major revolution. The continuous innovation of power battery technology is crucial to the sustainable development of new energy vehicles. In the future, XMU will continue to cultivate innovative talents, actively organize scientific research competitions and academic forums to encourage students to exchange their innovative achievements and ideas.
