From November 7 to 13, 2019, the finals of the 16th Challenge Cup National College Students' Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Contest was held in Beihang University. This year, a total of 447 works from 213 colleges and universities entered the final round. Students from Xiamen University (XMU) competed with other excellent students from all over the country, finally winning one second prize and four third prizes.

"The Upper and Lower Linkage in Institutional Change-An Empirical Study Based on System Reform on Collective Property Rights in Three Villages in Jianjiang" instructed by Lin Xuefei, Associate Professor from the School of Public Affairs (SPA), Xiamen University, and led by undergraduate student Yan Hai won the second prize.
Four works from XMU won the third prize: "Miniaturized Intermediate Infrared All-fiber Laser", instructed by Professor Luo Zhengqian from the School of Electronic Science and Engineering (ESE), Xiamen University, and led by graduate student Li Weiwei; "Leaky Wave Antenna Based on Spoof Surface Plasmon" instructed by Li Weiwen, Associate Professor from ESE and organized by graduate student Qin Shaoshao; "Robot Fish Based on Underwater Acoustic Bionic Detection" instructed by Professor Zhang Yu from the College of Ocean and Earth Science (COE), Xiamen University, and led by undergraduate student Xie Qichen; and "Research on the High-quality Development Model of Ecological Tea Industry-Based on the Survey in Anxi County, Fujian Province", instructed by Assistant Professor Hong Bin from The International College of Xiamen University, and organized by undergraduate student Liu Yijin.
Started in 1989, the Challenge Cup National College Students' Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Contest has gradually developed into a national competition with the highest level, the largest scale and the widest participation. It is the important platform for college students to exchange innovations and display their innovation achievements. Over the years, XMU has attached great importance to colleges students’ innovation and entrepreneurship, conducted various activities to stimulate students' enthusiasm for innovation and created a good atmosphere for innovation and entrepreneurship on and off campus.
