XMU Promotes the PHD Scholarship Project of New Sinology

On the afternoon of October 16th, XMU held a coordination conference on the cultivation and management of doctoral students in the New Sinology program to push forward the progress. Zhan Xinli, vice president of XMU, presided over this conference. Directors from Graduate School, Admission Office, Office of International Exchanges and Cooperation, Logistic Group and Confucius Institute attended the conference.

Zhan made a general introduction to the doctoral students´ scholarship of New Sinology program and praised the achievements made by joint efforts of all sectors since the program´s initiation in 2012. Zhan conveyed requirements of the conference of Confucius New Sinology held in August this year by the Confucius Institute Headquarter. Mao Tongwen, director of the Confucius Institute Office, reported current progress and discussed relevant issues exist in the implementation of this program. 


Confucius New Sinology Project aims to help young people form all countries to know better about China and Chinese culture, which can lead to prosperity of sinology and sustainable development of Confucius Institute. Furthermore, friendship between China and other countries can also been strengthened in this way. As one of the first domestic universities to implement this program, XMU has attached great importance to it. President Zhu Chongshi, along with other leaders, has held several meetings to promote the program. 2013 is the first year to implement the Confucius New Sinology program. Up to now, 12 students have been admitted (8 students have registered) after Confucius Institute´s interviews. XMU ranks first among domestic universities in terms of enrollment.
