Students of Japanese Department Achieves Great Success in Japanese Speech Contest Held by Hiroshima University

On October 19th, the Japanese Speech Contest held by Hiroshima University was closed in  Capital Normal University. Students from Xiamen University achieved great success in the contest: Wang Zhe, an undergraduate of Japanese department toped in the first five, winning the Excellence Award; Yang Yaqing, an undergraduate of Japanese Department was selected as the finalist. Depending on the students´ excellent works, XMU ranks first among all the colleges involved in the contest. Therefore, XMU was awarded as Excellent Group. 

The contest was constituted of two parts: composition judgment and speech contest. After reviewing the compositions themed on "Confucius", the judges made a decision on the list of the finalists and the Excellence Award. Those students who won the Excellence Award gain the chances to compete for the "the Best Individual" in Capital Normal University. After the strict preliminary selection, only 5 students were awarded the "Excellence Award" and 17 students are chosen as the finalists. Due to the adequate content and delicate structure of their compositions, students from XMU are shortlisted and Wang Zhe, in particular, won the "Excellence Award". 

The speech contest started in 2006 is held by the Beijing Center of Hiroshima University. It is open to the Students of Japanese Major nationwide, aiming at talent cultivating in Japanese language and building a communication bridge between China and Japan. So far, the contest has been held successfully for six years. Since 2010, College of Foreign Languages and Cultures of XMU started to organize the students from Japanese department to compete in the contest and has achieved great success. In 2010, Ma Wei, an undergraduate of 2007 won "the Best individual" and another undergraduate of 2008, Zhang Peiyu, won the same award in 2011. Moreover, XUM was awarded "the Best Group" twice respectively in 2010 and 2013.
