On the morning of Oct.30th, Wu Ming and Wang Yang, teachers from Confucius Institute of the University of Delaware visited Newark High School and held a special Chinese folk music concert. Miss Rosaria Macera, president of the Music Teaching Committee of Christina school district of Delaware attended this concert.

At the beginning, teacher Wu and teacher Wang respectively introduced the history and cultural heritage of traditional Chinese musical instruments like Guzheng, Erhu, Pipa, and Cucurbit flute. The concert proceeded with their performance of Guzheng music, Fishing Boat In the Evening, Pipa music, Spring Rain and Night of Torch Festival, and Cucurbit music, Bamboo in the moon. Those wonderful programs won constant warm applauses. Audiences got amazed when Teacher Wu showed them a video clip of Angry Bird music played by violin and Erhu. Later on, Teacher Wang played the theme song of Titanic, My Heart Will Go On, by Pipa. The students were deeply moved by the touching sound of traditional Chinese music instruments.

The concert was highly praised. Some students described it as the most wonderful concert they have ever been to. At the end of the concert, many students went forward and interacted with teachers in learning basic fingering techniques. Miss Rosaria Macera also showed great interest and "played" erhu.

Using music as a carrier, the Confucius Institute of University of Delaware led American students to splendid tours of Chinese culture. Through the concert, students have deepened their understandings of traditional Chinese music instruments and Chinese culture.
