Deputy Vice-chancellor of the University of Western Sydney Visits XMU

On the afternoon of November 15th, Dr. Lan Yizhen - vice-chancellor of the University of Western Sydney (UWS) visited the South Base of Confucius Institute & the Headquarter Office of Confucius Institute Affairs of XMU. Its Director Mao Tongwen expressed warm welcome to guests present.

In a meeting, Director Mao introduced the development history, prospect, and the overview of jointly managed oversea Confucius institutes. Dr. Lan spoke highly of achievements that XMU have made in worldwide promotions of Chinese language and culture. Then, he made a brief introduction on the situation of Chinese teaching, promotion and research in UWS and reviewed the history of the diplomatic tie between Australia and China. During the meeting, he pointed out that the connection of Chinese language and culture, which is one of the advantages that Confucius institutes hold, covers Australia´s shortage in the teaching of Chinese culture.  

Trough the meeting, XMU and UWS have reached a preliminary intention in the cooperation of establishing a Confucius institute, aiming at spreading Chinese language and culture, as well as promoting the cooperation and exchanges between the two universities and creating more opportunities for the development of both sides.
