On October 29th, 2007, the plaque-unveiling ceremony for the new building for the Confucius Institute at the University of Trier was held, and its work started officially.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by Jiang Feng, Education Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Germany and the Presidents of the two Universities. On behalf of Xiamen University, President Zhu presented the Institute with the gift of a large portrait of Confucius and 500 books in Chinese.

The newly-built Confucius Institute has an area of 230 square metres, with eight rooms providing offices, a reading room, multi-media classrooms, a photocopying room, and a refectory. The rooms are decorated with Chinese paintings of plum blossoms, orchids, bamboos and chrysanthemums, Chinese calligraphy and miniature landscapes, creating a distinctive traditional Chinese atmosphere which impresses every visitor.
